Periodontal Maintenance

Periodontal maintenance is the cornerstone of successful periodontal therapy. Regular periodic maintenance care can sustain periodontal health and reduce tooth loss. Following active therapy, an interval is established for periodic ongoing care. Typically, maintenance patients are seen on a three to four month interval.

Maintenance procedures are performed under ongoing supervision and include:

  • Update of medical/dental histories
  • Blood pressure screening
  • Extraoral & intraoral soft tissue exam
  • Dental exam, cancer screening
  • Periodontal exam
  • Removing bacteria (plaque & calculus)

The successful long term control of periodontal disease depends on active maintenance care through supportive periodontal treatment. A customized program will be “set-up” for you that will allow us to monitor for recurring disease and your plaque control efficiency. The disease process is managed-similar to diabetes or heart disease- not cured. If your goal is to keep your teeth throughout your lifetime, we must work together as a team to control your periodontal disease and optimize your oral health.

Our staff will provide you the tools to effectively clean your mouth each and every day. Daily optimal home care and professional maintenance are the keys to success.
